Half Double Addition

This project was a custom addition built onto a half-double home, a layout that required detailed planning and structural expertise. To create an open-concept kitchen, we installed a hidden steel beam in the ceiling, allowing us to remove load-bearing walls while maintaining full support. The kitchen features white Shaker cabinets with a Carrara quartz countertop for a clean, timeless look. To maximize space, we also removed and relocated the staircase underneath a front-entry closet, creating a larger and more functional kitchen layout. The new great room includes two Velux skylights and a natural gas fireplace with a new gas line installed from the alley. The homeowner is still deciding on a final accent wall design around the fireplace and TV, which will complete the space. What made this project especially challenging was completing all of this within the constraints of a half-double property, where every structural change required careful coordination and craftsmanship. The result is a modern, open, and fully transformed living space.

Homeowner Testimonial

Brian and his crew did an amazing transformation on my home. I live in a very small half double in Palmerton. The builders knocked down walls, added a 30 foot addition which included a sunroom, bathroom, laundry room and a kitchen. My house is now very open and bright. The Habitat team are great people to work with. Very patient and attentive to answer any questions that arose during the project. At the end of the day the job site was always left very clean leaving no debris. Thank you Habitat for all your hard work. My home is beautiful because of you. [ Read More ]
